Water retention & storage basins

Retention and storage basins are water engineering structures designed to collect and control water from sources like rainfall, sewage, or floods. Their design depends on their use. Large retention basins and flood polders protect low-lying areas from flooding, while stormwater basins prevent infrastructure damage from heavy rain. These basins delay water discharge into sewers or allow controlled seepage into the ground, often using baffles and screens.

Storage basins, which always contain water, serve purposes like fire fighting or irrigation. Geosynthetics such as geomembranes, clay liners, and erosion control mats are used for sealing, filtering, and reinforcing these structures.
